Only a year ago they announced their split after four years together. But it appears absence made the heart grow fonder for Countdown presenter Rachel Riley and her millionaire boyfriend Jamie Gilbert. As well as getting back together, the couple are now engaged to be married after Gilbert proposed earlier this month. The 29-year-old got down on one knee at Riley's Essex home just before her 25th birthday on January 11. He had been dropping hints in the weeks approaching his proposal when they checked out rings during their holiday in Mauritius. Riley said: 'I thought Jamie was going to propose when we went to a jewellers and he produced an amazing diamond then asked me to design a ring. But he never actually asked the question! 'When we were in the car on the way home, I asked Jamie if this meant we were engaged – he said he hoped so, so I said he ought to ask properly. 'When we got home Jamie finally got down on one knee and proposed and that’s when I got really excited. I’m so happy but it hasn’t really sunk in yet. It’ll feel real once the ring is made and it’s on my finger.'
The couple - who met at Oxford University - announced they had split last January, but it appears soon reconciled over the course of 2010. Riley and Gilbert – who is also remarkably bright with an IQ of 173 – started dating when she went to Oriel College to study mathematics. His degree was in Classics. In January 2009, the then-unknown star accepted a £100,000--a-year job on Countdown, taking over from previous presenter Carol Vorderman. Meanwhile, Gilbert's family have amassed a fortune from their computer business and sold their Surrey home to Chelsea and England footballer Ashley Cole and his ex-wife Cheryl for £3.55million in 2007.
